After a short 2 and 1/2 hour flight, we ended up in another world. First thing we’ve seen were four bunnies in the field at the airport as we were taxing after arrival. The city is absolutely beautiful and people are super friendly and nice. Everyone celebrates “great weather” of 54 degrees F. We complain but then have to explain that we are from Hawaii…
One of our favorite parts is the architecture – all these gorgeous brick buildings with lacquered doors colored red, yellow, green, and black.
Landscaping is immaculate and looks especially beautiful with blooming fruit trees, magnolias, tulips, poppies, and many other flowers all over the city.
After an unexpectedly delicious lunch, we went to the National Gallery which had an interesting collection of Irish and European art. It was very well organized and we had an excellent free guide.
The top exhibits were this work by Vermeer.
And this Velazquez – set in Andalusia!
We goofed around in the park which was also beautiful.
The city is flat and toddler-friendly. As long as you can catch him and carry him off.
To be continued…
